There are three types of investments that you should know about.  These investments include bonds, stocks, and cash.  It may sound simple, but it can get rather complicated, as each of these three investment types have numerous other investments falling underneath them.

There is a lot to learn about all three investment types.  The stock market can be a rather frightening place for you if you don’t know much about investing. You can narrow down what you need to learn by determining what kind of investor you are.  There are three types of investors: aggressive, moderate, and conservative.  These types of investments also come along with high and low risk tolerance.

The conservative investors usually invest in cash.  They put their money in interest collecting money market accounts, savings, mutual funds, Certificates of Deposit, an US Treasury Bills.  These are obviously safe investments that increase over a long period of time.  There is low risk involved.

The moderate investors typically invest in bonds and cash.  They may even dabble in the stock market a bit.  Moderate investing includes low or moderate risk taking.  Moderate investors sometimes invest in real estate, just as long as it’s a low risk real estate.

The aggressive investors usually do the majority of their investing in the stock market.  This is higher risk.  They also invest in new business ventures as well as high risk real estate.  For example, if aggressive investors put their money into an older apartment building, and then invests even more money in fixing the property up, they are running a high risk.  They’re hoping to be able to rent the apartments to tenants for more than they’re currently worth, or to sell the property for a good profit.  Sometimes, this works out fine, but other cases, it doesn’t.  It’s risky.

Now before you go out there and start investing, you first need to learn about the investment types, and what all of them can do for you.  You should understand the risks involved, and study trends and patterns.  History repeats itself, and good investors know this!
